PASSION? Helping and encouraging people through difficult seasons in life!
PURPOSE? Restoring freedom and hope to the brokenhearted! PROFESSION? Empowering families to live emotionally healthy lives! Hi, I am Janice McLeroy, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Peachtree City, GA. Welcome to the site. I absolutely love working with pre-teens and teens helping them to discover who they are and where they fit in within their family and peer groups, as well as helping them navigate the stressors of their age group. Though adolescents are my area of specialty, I find great fulfillment in working with young adults and adults through difficult seasons, and helping them to restore the freedom in their lives and relationships. |
Education & Background:
I'm not your average Licensed Professional Counselor. With a 36+ year career in both the public and private sector, I bring a unique and rich level of knowledge, insight, and wisdom to my private office. I obtained my Master's and Educational Specialist degrees, 1994 and 2009 respectively, from the University of West Georgia. In 2003 I obtained a License of Professional Counseling (LPC) through the State of Georgia. Furthermore, I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), an integrative treatment approach that addresses improperly stored memories from traumatic and adverse life events.
My career began in the education field where I served the families of the Fayette County School System for 30 years, with experience at all three levels. During my tenure as a counselor, I was twice awarded School Counselor of the Year at the middle school level. In addition to counseling in public schools, I also was a part of a private counseling practice where I counseled 10-year-olds thru adults. The experience in both the school and private community provides me with a unique advantage in helping my clients- both the adolescents and their parents.
Beliefs:
Change can be difficult, but I believe that every individual has the capacity to learn and grow. Building rapport easily, with an authentic style, sets my clients at ease. I will meet you where you are, but will also NOT shy away from challenging you to take risks so you can reach your goals. Depending on the client's circumstances, I incorporate a variety of counseling styles from my training and experience. As a Christian, I like to approach counseling from a holistic perspective looking from all aspects of your life ~ spirit, soul (mind/will/emotions), and body. While I've seen transformative breakthroughs take place in people when they approach counseling from this perspective, I am quite able to work with any client regardless of religious, cultural, or ethnic background. I respect and honor each client's right to choose the direction we take in the therapeutic process.
Personal:
Georgia has always been home to me, and I reside just 4 miles from the heart of Tyrone. When I am not in the office, you can find me relaxing by my pond or spending time with family and friends. I also enjoy most recreational activities outdoors as well as photography, flower gardening, baking, and quilting. I am active in my church as well as Atlanta South Walk to Emmaus organization.
